BENEFITS OF EXERCISE

According to the Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion,  not only does exercise improve your physical health, it can also:

  • Boost your mood

  • Sharpen your focus

  • Reduce your stress

  • Improve your sleep

Set Goals.

Create goals for yourself. They can either be short-term or long-term goals. What do you want to get out of your journey? Why are you exercising? Make your goals meaningful and specific to you. With that being said, make sure your goals are realistic. The idea is to motivate your self!

Short Term vs. Long Term Goals

Short-term goal:
Aiming to walk 10,000 steps a day

LEADS TO

Long-term goal:
 Better quality of life

Start of small.

Start of small. You don't have to jump into a vigorous workout right away, and you shouldn't. Start of with a level and pace that you are comfortable with, and slowly build it up. This way, you are able to build your will and determination to continue.

Positivity

Be positive and don't be too hard on yourself! Sometimes, you may find that you are too tired to exercise, the exercises are too hard, or you are upset that you did not meet your goal for the month. It's always hard in the beginning, but don't give up. Remember, your health is dependent on your actions.

HELPFUL TIPS

  • Be safe! Any physical activity should always be approached with safety. Never push yourself to the point of
injury. You know your own body the best so listen to your body when it feels overworked! TAKE REST DAYS!

  • Wear the appropriate workout clothes and shoes. Dress according to the weather conditions or the type of activity you're doing. You want to reduce the risks of injury by wearing the proper attire.

  • Always consult with your doctor first before starting any new physical activities or exercise regimes. They may be able to formulate an exercise plan that is more accommodating to your condition and health status.

  • Always warm up and cool down prior to working out to avoid injuries.

  • Exercising in pairs or in groups may help you feel more motivated to get fit. Everyone can help encourage one another.

  • Find out if your community is offering any free or low cost fitness classes. Sometimes local colleges offer fitness classes like yoga or aerobics. Challenge yourself by participating in fun walks or fitness events!

  • Monitor your progress to keep track your achievements. With meeting each goal, you will feel more empowered and inspired to better yourself.
